User reviews

I have been using trimmers for decades, and have reviewed all the major makes, and there is not much innovation left to be had. Indeed it is more about getting them wrong than getting them right these days.My current go-to trimmer is Philips, which has held sway despite couple of contenders being sent to me for testing and review, so I already have a very positive view of Philips trimmers. Inevitably that does mean an element of bias.Anyway, this trimmer, pitched at £20 is surprisingly good for the money:Here are the issues I have historically had with trimmers:1. Flimsy combs that do not attach well2. Comb lengths spread out too much, eg 1mm then 4mm3. Blades that nick skin, especially on the neck or 'sensitive areas'Against these measures the new 3000 series passes easily. The blades are robust with full backing plates, and they have minimal flex. They click very securely onto the trimmer head. They are described on the box as 'impact resistant'. I have no idea what that means. The combs lengths are exactly what I need - 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. There are also combs for 5mm and 9mm, which I have no interest in.The blades are silky smooth, and trimming without a comb does not require a first aid kit. They claim to be 'self-sharpening' which is obviously nonsense - they don't lose their edge and then sharpen themselves - but they claim to keep their edge for three years (try saying 'stay-sharp blades' Philips). It will be a while before I can verify that. There is a nose trimmer attachment, which works well. I once reviewed a trimmer with a nose attachment that simply yanked out my nostril hairs! It was a long time before I even went near a nose trimmer after that. Anyway, this one is fine and gently trims.Last, and least, is the pouch. Thin fabric with a zip-lock closure. I don't fancy the chances of the closure lasting as long as the blades, but it'll do. Battery life is 'up to 60 minutes'. I always keep the plug in the pouch, so although I travel a lot I have never had issues with the battery life on a trimmer. Anything over 30 minutes seems like more than enough to me.In summary, this new trimmer avoids the most-common pitfalls. The combs are the best I have seen on an entry-level trimmer and everything else is solid. At £20 this is probably all you need in a trimmer, so it represents very good value. There are a couple of other models, at £20 and £30, for which you get some extra combs. Unless you REALLY need those extra combs lengths, don't bother, as the step-up in price is much more than you receive back.
This product could have been great. How? Two things:1) The 'On' switch is too tight... a simple slide up and down doesn't work...you need to use your nail almost to force it up.2) The charger is bespoke: Maybe these companies can stop wasting money and come up with a universal charging cable...or go with USB as most people have these cables as standard in their homes.I mean, I could nit-pick other things but other than the 2 things above, its a good product. It cuts my beard well and the battery seems to last a long time. The carrying case can hold everything including the charger, which is really handy when bathroom storage space is a premium.I recommend this product.
Did not get the combs that were advertised. The product description and image says that you get 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm combs with this product, The shortest comb I received was 3mm.
