Pressed the Sync buttons in the right order (new satellite first, router second) and it was up and running in less than five minutes.Perfect. Really easy.However.... One really important thing to note: When the new satellite first connects it'll probably go and grab the latest firmware, so it'll disappear from the network for a few minutes.I think it's this step that's confusing some people, and they end up pressing the sync button again or power cycling the satellite. Just wait for it to get the new firmware.
Delivers blazing speeds and excellent coverage. The satellite integrated fairly easily into my existing ORBI network, but required a lot of dedication and some degree of expertise, to achieve stability*. (*this applies to the whole ORBI network as much as it does to this singular component)The ORBI users' community was much more supportive than the NETGEAR technical support, but when setting up the platform, there was little that was seamless.Remember that this particular item is a satellite product and does not function as a stand alone router.
I bought a 3rd Orbi satellite to try and get my original Orbis (router+2 satellites package) to work....I've a 120 yr old brick house. I think the optimistic Netgear diagrams of household meshes are based on timber-framed houses. Nothing like that worked in mine. I spent ages moving the Orbis around and trying to get shorter paths. No luck. The Orbis take ages to boot, so when you move them around as I did, every time you move them you've got a long wait ahead. I think I lost 2 days to booting. The app, at least on iOS, is disappointing. It constantly needs rebooting as it gets confused. It's probably OK if you aren't moving things around all the time.I was trying to upgrade my wired ethernet to wifi, and originally I thought the Orbi's ethernet connection would help, but it seems it's only for backhaul - ie, uploading data, not downloading. So the ethernet does not help connectivity if the Orbis won't wifi to each other, which they couldn't in my house. The Netgear web site is useless. I never managed to register (kept getting errors) and get help for the Orbi. Worse, since you can't register, you can't even ask for help registering!!!!Good news is Amazon accepted it back. I'm wondering whether I'll get 100% for it as it's been "used"
